I SO appreciate that this (highlighted text) is stated so clearly in a research paper. Sometimes an effort not to anthropomorphize ends up stripping humanity (...canamity? Dogmanity...?!) and ability to empathize with another species. Leaning toward anthropectomy, denying emotions, drives and experiences that are familiar to us as humans, is just as dangerous as thinking dogs are humans in fuzzy suits!
