Rowan's toys are important for him, and like any good working breed he takes it Very Very Seriously. Having a puppy jump on him or take his stuff is NOT OKAY. But Rowan doesn't resource guard from his housemates by growing, snarking etc... so how do I know? His arousal and intensity increases, he drops the ball further from me on return or circles before approach, he's more vocal. His play changes. I use exclusively toys for reinforcement of his recall (come) - and that is critically important to keep intact!! Will anyone get hurt if I let Briar chase him? Probably not. But it would set a poor example of non-consensual interactions for Briar, it would take away Rowan's enjoyment, and will damage his recall. This is why I'm working with Briar on not chasing him when he is playing with a toy. It's not her turn. Risks of altercations will increase for dogs engaging in this activity in a dog park with other unknown dogs, and with multiple dogs in pursuit. Dog Training in Guelph Ontario – Scratch and Sniff Canine Services

Scratch and Sniff Canine Services teaches positive reinforcement and clicker training. Group classes include puppy socialization classes, manners and obedience dog training for adult dogs, and specialty classes such as Rally Obedience, Canine Good Neighbour, Control Unleashed, Advanced Manners, Tricks, Scent Detection, Polite Leash Walking for dogs who pull on leash and more.

Private training is for dogs who need to learn manners and obedience, puppy problem solving and behaviour modification for reactivity, fear and aggression, including separation anxiety, resource guarding or possessiveness of food/toys/territorial, dog aggression, and more. Scratch and Sniff Canine Services also presents workshops and seminars on various aspects of dog training and care.

Scratch and Sniff Canine Services is located in Guelph, but draws clientele from surrounding areas including Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Fergus, Elora, Milton, Acton, Rockwood, Elmira, St. Jacobs, Acton, Arthur, Mount Forest, Georgetown, Ariss and others. Our ability to travel is limited, however clients are welcome to book private sessions at the facility in Guelph.
